The Gambia is a growing nation and every day the yearning to succeed is becoming forceful amongst youths, slight efforts have been done over the years to uplift the living standards of both youths and women. This is evident by looking at the large number of young people that go through the back way for better opportunities overseas
In recent times we have seen a lot of youths going into business and entrepreneurship (poultry farming, carpentering, tailoring, etc.) all in search for a better way of living but the question is what has the government of this country done for young people?
The responsibility of every government is to enhance the lives of citizens within the context of economic growth; development can only work if there is unity and collaboration amongst the leaders and their subject. This is why there is a need for us to work together so as to foster integration and achieve meaningful results.
For young people to be empowered in the Gambia certain modalities have to be implemented for there to be any meaningful achievement. Youths can be empowered by providing them with the information and resources necessary for analyzing issues that affect their lives and environments; this will help them become strong analyzers on ways to act as agents of change in their communities. Youths of the Gambia need to be given the opportunity to voice out their thoughts; they do this by addressing their situation and then take action in order to improve their level of participation in political, social and economical issues. Government must at all cost include the youths in decision making processes especially the ones affecting them consecutively to make their vision and ideas realistic.
