The Brikama Area Council has been slammed by market vendors at Brikama over poor conditions of their market. The market is said to be the biggest in West Coast Region but the condition of this major market is making work difficult for vendors.
Some of the vendors showed their dissatisfaction in how they are been treated, adding that they pay their dues on a daily bases but their state still remains the same.
Amie Sabally a vegetable vendor said “it is really disheartening that we leave our families as early as 6.00am to come here in order to get something that we can take back to them, but as you can see this whole place is not fit for us to be selling food items.Right now things are better but during the rainy season the gutters become full, making it a breeding place for mosquitoes, houseflies and other insects which can be a treat to our health.”
Lamin fatty a Fish Monger also told us that he has been selling at the Brikama fish market for 8 months , he said they have now taken it upon themselves to clean the fish selling area which is not their job buy they are left with no choice than to clean the place themselves. Mr Fatty concluded by saying that the”Brikama Area Council should try and employ people that will ensure that the place is clean at all times.”
They call on the Government through the Brikama Area Council to assist them in improving the conditions they face at the Brikama market.
